Our Mission:
KDC-FIRE is a social justice organization founded and lead by undocumented youth who fight for immigrant rights and equality. KDC-FIRE believes that the current immigration system is fundamentally broken and can only be fixed through the mobilization of people power.
We are committed to educating and organizing our communities in order to make the changes that are necessary for the formation of a fair and just society. KDC-FIRE accepts all our allies in the struggle, and we do not discriminate based on immigration status, sexual and gender identity, racial or ethnic background, religious orientation, or social status. As all forms of oppression overlap and intersect, we believe that unity is necessary for our collective liberation. We advocate for immigration reform with dignity, and aspire for a world without borders. |
Our History:
KDC was founded in Lexington, KY by undocumented youth pushing for the DREAM Act in 2010. After the legislation failed by a close vote, KDC members came back from the nation's capitol disappointed but with a fire to expand our advocacy work.
A chapter of KDC emerged at the University of Kentucky and a year later another chapter began in the University of Louisville named KDC: Fire. Our two chapters collaborate on public education, service, direct action and advocacy work. |
D.A.C.A
A great victory was won when Obama Administration allowed undocumented youth, a.k.a dreamers, administrative relief as Deferred Action for Childhood Arrivals. This allows undocumented youth to gain work authorization, state IDs, and most importantly the possibility of continuing higher education. We provided free DACA clinics in Louisville and Lexington.
